It is an area protected by the Peruvian government in 1977 and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987.

It is the largest National Park in Peru, with an area 1 909 800 hectares.

It is divided into three large areas: The National Park, with 1,532,806 hectares; The Reserved Zone, with 257,000 hectares; And the Transitional or Cultural Zone, with 120 000 hectares.

The park protects several ecological zones due to this topographic range, it has one of the highest levels of biodiversity of any park in the world.

In this park there are more than 15,000 species of plants in Manu, and up to 250 varieties of trees have been found per hectare.

It also houses more than 1000 bird species more than the number of bird species found in the United States and Canada combined and almost 10% of the total bird species in the world.

It also has one of the largest amounts of terrestrial vertebrates found in the tropical forests of Latin America, it is also the last refuge of the largest feline (The Great JAGUAR) of the Peruvian Amazon.

Program

We will leave Cusco early in our comfortable bus until we reach the folk village of Paucartambo, then we will visit the pre-Inca funerary towers of Ninamarca, then we will drive through a cloud forest full of plants and beautiful orchids, we will have the opportunity to observe the national bird of the Peru: Gallito de las Rocas (Rupicola Peruviana), monkeys, many birds and other species and with a little luck, we will see the only South American bear, the spectacled bear (Tremarctos Ornatus).

In the afternoon we arrive at Pilcopata, where we will spend the night at the Lodge there will be showers and private bathrooms to cool off.

Finally, we arrive on the last day of our tour, after breakfast we will return to the port of Atalaya visiting this beautiful village for the last time, where our bus will be waiting for us to return to Cusco.
